CRIME REPORT MAP FAQ
Q: Why aren't reports of crime for my law enforcement agency included in the map?
A: The Chelan County Sheriff's Office was the first agency to agree to participate. The office sends us crime report information digitally as a way of better informing citizens about reports of crime in their communities. If you'd like to see more reports added to the map, please e-mail us at holst@wenworld.com or contact your police agency at:
Wenatchee Police Department: (509) 888-4200
Douglas County Sheriff's Office: (509) 884-0941
East Wenatchee Police Department: (509) 884-9511
Q: When is the map updated?
A: Reports are received each Monday for the previous seven days and posted Tuesday.
Q: If a crime is reported on the map, does that mean a crime's been committed?
A: Initial calls may not accurately reflect the nature of the incident. Police officers responding to the call may reclassify the type of incident.
Q: How accurate is the map?
A: As accurate as Google's mapping technology allows. It isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn good.
Q: Why does 401 Washington St. seem to be the location of so many crime reports?
A: That's the address of the headquarters of the Chelan County Sheriff's Office. Reports generated for this address often reflect the opening of cases by investigators, not the location of an incident.
Q: What is covered by the sex offense category?
A: Not all sex offense calls deal with sexual assaults. This category of report often includes reports of sex offenders not complying with legal requirements to register their home address.
